What Happens if You Move While You’re Claiming Unemployment Benefits?
Posted by Jack Humphrey on February 9th, 2008
Becoming unemployed causes much negativity in your life and will ultimately lead you to be quite discouraged, especially if you have had a job for a long time. Being unemployed brings a lot of stress and causes a person to panic about the future. The fears of financial stability, social status, and lack of opportunities often overwhelm someone who becomes unemployed and brings a black cloud of despair into their life.
Even though several bad aspects exist about being unemployed, there exist several optimistic aspects that should be achieved if a person remembers to do them. Losing your job, especially in America, is definitely not the end of the world. Many thousands, if not millions, of people are unemployed at least a few times throughout their lives and they almost always seem to find a way out of it.
There are many other things that an unemployed person can do to overcome discouragement. often times it takes quite a while to secure another possible job position, and the amount of time that it takes to find this job determines what a person should do. Being unemployed can be quite beneficial if a person knows how to work the system.
Many different people, when they lose their job, sometimes do not remember that there are many benefits and rewards that belong to people who are unemployed and experience the difficulties of being under the negative effects of losing their job. Instead of wallowing in such sorrows and depression, a person must remember that he or she can apply for unemployment benefits when a job is lost. This will help stabilize their financial life while they search for another possible job position.
When someone finally does obtain unemployment rewards and benefits, they often feel so much more secure during their job search. Several other questions arise during this time period, one of which includes the question of what happens to the benefits if a person moves. Sometimes people worry that they will lose their benefits if they move to a different location during their time of unemployment.
Using much wisdom and a unique understanding of the system, people should be able to obtain unemployment benefits even if they change addresses to a different location. Most of the time, a person simply has to file for a change of address before they move locations. A change of address form can be obtained at any number of state government agency centers.
The unemployed person must then fill out the address form and register with the government agency, and then they will have effectively obtained a continual acquistion of unemployment benefits. Even if the person moves to a different state, the unemployment claim will still be established in the previous state and benefits can still be obtained. Unemployment benefits will still come from the state funds where a person originally lost his or her job.
There are many instances that the various unemployment claims will say what you can do if you change addresses during the process, but for a majority of the time it only takes a simple change of address form to secure unemployment benefits.
